Hamstring Strain Rehabilitation.

Cause:

Hamstring strains are the most prevalent soft tissue injury in recreational and sports activities that involve sprinting, jumping and kicking. Hamstring injuries can vary in mechanism of injury and the grade of injury which can make rehabilitation difficult. There are two main types of hamstring strains.

The most commonly observed during the late swing phase of a sprint when the hamstrings are highly active working eccentrically to slow down the swinging tibia; and secondly where the activity necessitates large movements of the limb such as dancing and gymnastics.

How can we help?

Early activation and a progressive loading program (within tissue tolerance and healing process) of the tissue within a day or two of the injury occurring has shown to have the greater outcomes. Reoccurrence of hamstring injuries is quite high and this may be due to insufficient rehab program.

At Progressive Physical Therapy we pride ourselves on getting to the route of the issue. We never look at the hamstring in isolation rather we look at the body as a whole. How you move, how you breath and how you control the pelvis during movement can be the key to getting to the route of the issue.
